Institution-specific Issues

Canada
Canadian bank connections are particularly prone to bank syncing issues today, as many of Canada’s major banks, including RBC, TD, Scotiabank, CIBC, Tangerine and others, are still operating on older authentication methods while awaiting final open banking and OAuth regulatory guidance.
Lunch Money was intentionally built to accommodate this by offering a dedicated support team to actively escalate sync issues and keep users informed, in addition to a reliable CSV and PDF importer that allows you to effortlessly upload transactions and keep your budget clean and accurate. Our robust Developer API has also enabled expanded connectivity through solutions like Lunch Flow, a third-party solution built by a Lunch Money user, that let’s you connect to even more institutions for automatic transaction syncing (via Plaid alternatives, such as MX), including:
And many more! Check out the whole list here.
🏦 CIBC (CA)
Latest update from Plaid ( January 24, 2026):
Known Issue KI123004: Invalidated MFA with CIBC & Simplii Financial
An issue is occurring where Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will become invalidated shortly after the end-user’s initial Item creation. This issue is occurring with CIBC & Simplii Financial. This issue occurs with products that have background updates, such as transactions, investments, and liabilities and may impact new connections or background updates on existing items.
This issue will require collaboration with the financial institution or data partner to resolve. Plaid has reached out to them to move toward a resolution. Because this issue requires assistance from the financial institution, we do not have an estimated fix date.
Plaid highly prioritizes fixes based on user impact, so user reports are an integral part of the resolution process. If you are experiencing sync issues, please open an in-app bank syncing support ticket. You can do so by clicking here.
What can I do in the meantime?
Try reconnecting: Often, creating a brand new connection and merging with the existing accounts works well to pull in new transaction imports. You can follow the steps here.
Run a CSV/PDF import: Lunch Money has a streamlined import feature so that you can bulk import transactions with a CSV or a PDF bank statement. You can learn more here.
Check out Lunch Flow (paid): This is a third-party tool that supports CIBC through an integration with MX & Finicity (Plaid alternatives). It works with a "set it and forget it" system, so once you have your accounts set up in Lunch Flow, your transactions are automatically imported daily into Lunch Money! Lunch Flow has a cost, which is used to cover operation fees, but there's a discounted annual plan and a free trial available! To learn more, check out this blog post.

🏦 Tangerine (CA)
There are definitely ongoing syncing issues between Tangerine and Plaid for some time now as many Tangerine users report. The general understanding is that Tangerine seems to send transaction updates once every 5 to 9 days, and a frequent relink (re-entering your one-time passcode) is required to get those updates.
Plaid is aware of the issue with Tangerine but no fix date has been issued.

A Lunch Money user (shout out to Masha!) has shared this technique in our community Discord for getting Tangerine to sync. They write the following:
I think I finally found a reliable way to force Tangerine to import transactions! Requires having 2 accounts. Ideally you don’t care much about the second one (in case something gets messed up). For me, the main one is Checking, and the burner one is Savings. From the Accounts screen:
“Add or remove accounts from this bank.” - “Relink to Tangerine”.
Click through Plaid screens with “Continue” and “Allow”.
Enter one-time code.
Uncheck Savings account.
You will get a pop-up alert that Tangerine has lost the connection to the Savings account. Don’t close the window yet!
From the same alert window, “Relink to Tangerine”.
Click through Plaid’s Continue/Allow pages once again.
Enter new one-time code.
Make sure both accounts are checked.
LM will detect a new account (Savings). Set earliest import date to today (or whenever it imported transactions last) and confirm you want to merge with an existing deactivated Savings account.
This will trigger a pull for the latest transactions from Checking as well.
I believe this has to do with the fact that Tangerine will not release new transactions without entering a one-time code. It was the same way with Mint, refreshing the account prompted for a verification code. What does NOT work for transactions and at best updates the balance:
“Trigger refresh for this account” from the account’s screen.
“Refresh” button from the Transactions screen.
